The Events of the Risorgimento
The Events of the Risorgimento from 1859 to 1861
The soldier leaving for war, and the one returning from it, are among the most recurrent subjects in history painting of all periods. Thus Gerolamo Induno’s A Follower of Garibaldi Bids Farewell and Domenico Induno’s The Return of the Wounded Soldier could hardly be omitted from the exhibition “Le vicende risorgimentali degli anni 1859–1861” (“The Events of the Risorgimento from 1859 to 1861”) currently at the Museo del Risorgimento in Milan to mark the 150th anniversary of Italian Unification. Both works, which belong to the Fondazione Cariplo Collection, will be on display until 20 June 2011 in the rooms of Palazzo Meriggia.
