The Gardens of Paradise
The Gardens of Paradise. Taste and Beauty from the Garden to the Table. International Gothic to Contemporary Art
Caraglio (CN), Il Filatoio via Matteotti, 40 - from 5 September to 8 Dicember 2015
This exhibition took place at the Filatoio in Caraglio, during the final months of EXPO. It was dedicated to this place in nature and civilization that has often been described and portrayed in large paintings and other works of art, and is also one of the greatest architectural themes of all times. The exhibition was inspired by the EXPO 2015 theme, Feeding the Planet, to offer an original and well-conceived itinerary through different works of art dedicated to the garden. The artworks date from the 1400s to the present, and tell the story of beauty and delicious things, also including production areas, vegetable gardens and orchards. In Piedmontese and Mediterranean gardens, in fact, beauty and usefulness integrate into the same perspective and symbolic unity. The exhibition has four different sections, which are necessary to illustrate a theme this complex and frequently offer interesting contrasts and associations between works from different time periods and by different artists. Fondazione Cariplo has provided a painting from the Collection by Giuseppe Palizzi, “Capre che brucano un cespuglio di rose”.
